Business Need
Due to a sharp decrease (12 points) in employee satisfaction on the bi-annual Employee Engagement survey question, “I feel supported by my direct manager” primarily amongst remote-first teams, the Talent Management team requested a net-new course on leading virtual teams to be delivered to new (<6 months post hire/up-level) people managers with remote direct reports.
Audience
First-time people managers with remote direct reports
Challenges
This course was part of a broader initiative by the Talent Management team to address decreased employee satisfaction on remote teams. Measuring course impact would be difficult due to confidentiality and length of time between engagement surveys. Leadership requested a training that could be included in both new hire curriculum for managers and leadership development programming.
Training Solution
An asynchronous course with modules on supervisory skills and behaviors for managers in remote-first working environments. To increase accountability and allow for upstream performance management, modules would include activity-based assessments and goals tied to quarterly manager KPIs.
Storyboard Excerpt
This is a storyboard excerpt from Module B “Adapting Your Leadership Style” of the Leading Virtual Teams course for new people managers.
This storyboard template is one I often use for Storyline and PowerPoint courses with multiple interactions and/or branching scenarios. Within the technical notes, I typically link to course assets (image, audio, video files, etc.).
