Business Need
As part of new hire onboarding for teams at brick-and-mortar retail locations, the in-house Design Services team must learn to differentiate between popular interior design styles and key elements of each in order to match the appropriate design style with each client’s preferences.

Audience
Entry-level Interior Designers

Challenges
Learners needed to grasp foundational interior design principles prior to starting technical trainings on interior design software programs. The time for training is limited to before/after store hours, so asynchronous learning is ideal. The strategy team also requested a  scalable solution to add design styles as trends change.

Solutions
For this project, I partnered with SMEs (high-performing, tenured Interior Designers) to determine which design styles and key elements were most in demand at retail locations. Since the learner profile was for creatives, I chose to design a program that brought in storytelling elements and rich visuals. To create an immersive experience, I used Skybox AI to render 360 images of styled interiors, then imported those images into Photoshop to polish before adding to Storyline.

Program Results

  • Goal: 30 minutes total for course completion

    Actual: 22 minutes average

  • Goal: 85% pass rate

    Actual: 93% pass rate

  • Goal: Designers will indicate client’s interior design style preference(s) on 100% of intake forms.

    Actual: 94% (33 out of 35) Designers indicated 30-day post-training.

  • Goal: Increased speed to proficiency in Design Fundamentals from 0-30 days post-training.

    Actual: Expectations met, per stakeholders.

Learner Feedback

“This course was so fun!!! I loved exploring the different rooms and seeing what items I could find.”

“The E-learning helped me to understand what the important parts are for the different rooms like colors, textures and furniture styles. After this course I could make the 3D renderings more easily because I knew the pieces to include for styles, especially traditional and contemporary.”

“I’d like to see more design styles with mixed elements, for example Neo-Traditional or Eclectic.”
